The big show

Life on the hill

The big show

Jay caught the deer browsing this morning.

Zen at lunch yesterday, caught by Jay.

Looking north this morning. Zen having breakfast in 27 degree weather.

Snow is back. This is just outside the western window. Waiting patiently for the real spring after a teasing couple of days.

I have dozens of photographs of sunrises and sunsets, but none of them come close to showing what I see.  This morning was especially spectacular, with a sky full of low clouds that put on a show for an hour.  If I had woken at seven rather than at six, I would have seen only a dull grey morning.  But for that first hour, I couldn’t read for more than a minute at a time.  I just kept looking at the breathtaking sky.  Just before seven, at the grand finale of the show, Charlie wanted out and wandered out into the deep snow, even though Dan had plowed a nice path around the house.  I went out to bring him in before he wandered further and was rewarded with the full impact of the sky outside.  It’s glorious from the sliding doors inside, but outside, where I can see above and around, it’s the really big show.

I went out in bathrobe and boots in 27 degree weather with about six inches of snow on the ground.  I guess I’m acclimating.

We seem to have defeated the mice.  I got ultrasonic plug ins, safe for humans and pets, but unpleasant for bugs and mice.  The last straw was finding a stick of butter I had left uncovered on the counter with little tooth marks all around the top.  But since I installed the plug ins, we’ve had three days with no new mouse poop.  I have nothing against mice, but I’m not willing to share my butter.

With the sunrise show over for some time, there is only a grey sky and a white world. Peace and quiet, and beauty everywhere I look.

Sounds as though Charlie is getting to enjoy the snow. I want a picture of you barefoot in the snow!

You’ll wait a long time for that picture! But you’re right, Charlie is liking the snow. The problem is, he doesn’t know his limits and ends up getting too cold to move, and has to be rescued.
